LA PAZ

The City of La Paz and its surroundings can transport you to a mysterious past where any corner, any street, is a hidden treasure where adventure begins; a living history which treasures the pre Hispanic times with all their traditions and magic rites on its streets. The indigenous, colonial and modern areas, Indian Market, Witch Doctor's Market & breathtaking panoramas are all framed by the majestic "Illimani" mountain. The Moon Valley is a clay formation resembling the face of the Moon.

TIWANAKU RUINS (1580 BC–1050 AD)

These are the magnificent ruins of Bolivia and one of the oldest civilizations in the Americas. The Sun Gate, the Temple of Kalasasaya and the Pyramid of Akapana are the sample of a glorious past. Tiwanaku culture was an agrarian based economy with an estimated population of 115.000 inhabitants. The state controlled agriculture produced the surplus wealth to support the urban centre and administrative system. They were outstanding in agriculture, hydraulic, architecture & medicine, as well as in social organization. Close to Tiwanaku is "Puma Punku", also part of Tiwanaku, which truly startles the imagination. It seems to be the remains of a great wharf on Lake Titicaca and exposes stones over 440 tons. Due to an economical crisis caused by a long dry season, Tiwanaku collapsed around 1.050 AD. UNESCO has declared Tiwanaku "Cultural Heritage of Mankind".

YUNGAS: HUMID MONTAIN FORESTS

Adrenaline accelerates when traveling to the lush tropical area of Los Yungas, the mountain rain forests at 100 km. La Paz. The spectacular journey starts after reaching the highest point in "La Cumbre" at an altitude of 4.700 mtrs, descending from the cold of the heights of La Paz to the hot village of Coroico at an altitude of 1.200 mtrs. This region, located in the forest between the Andes Cordillera and the Amazon basin, is known for its plantations of oranges, coca, bananas, coffee, critics, and all kinds of tropical products, as well as beautiful orchids. Another special feature is the symbiosis between cultural and ethnic groups of Afro-Bolivians, descendant of Africans brought to Bolivia to work in the silver mines during colonial times.

ZONGO VALLEY

The "Zongo Valley", is located at the eastern slope of the Royal Cordillera of the Andes. This valley is a zone of transition between the dry high plateau Altiplano (4000 m) and the Amazonian basin, where ice caves, turquoise lakes and the peak of Huayna Potosi, are the perfect frame for this fabulous panorama. At Zongo Valley you can also see the hydroelectric plants which use the water resources of the high slopes to generate electricity for the city of La Paz.

PAMPALARAMA

Pampalarama is an Aymara settlement dating back to 1871, keeping all essential traditions and features of the Aymara culture until now. Located at the foothill of the Chacaltaya Mountain at the Royal Cordillera and at one hour from La Paz, visitors can enjoy a visit to this community, dedicated to agriculture, the growing of llamas & alpacas and the production of "charke", dried llama meat. The project includes the preservation of nature within a sustainable development.
